A Can of White Paint

 The problem:  an ugly wooden box from the 70's that functions as a chest of drawers and lives in my living room. (The apartment came furnished so there was no getting rid of it and no closet space to hide it).  

The solution:  a can of white paint.

Three coats later. 

The result.

Oh the power of a can of white paint. Still not perfect by any means (I would have loved to change the hardware but it was impossible to find the right size) but a major improvement from what we were working with before.  It is nice not to cringe every time I walk in the front door.

Now, just to find a lamp and some decent picture frames.... without sacrificing my first child's college education.... thoughts?
